Estate Planning – You are not Too Young

Someone once told me, the more you have, the more you have to lose. I recently asked my nephew if he had any friends who needed a will. He said he only knew young people that probably wouldn’t consider writing a will right now. My nephew is a 30-year-old, newlywed doctor. His answer made me realize that many millennials may not realize how they could benefit from estate planning.

My nephew is a perfect example of the younger generation that doesn’t realize all they have that needs protecting.  By the time you are in your fifties, you are more likely to own real estate, have a larger retirement account and other investments. However, individuals in their twenties and thirties have plenty that is worth protecting in the event the worst happens.  They likely have some financial assets, and have started retirement planning.  Most importantly, many have children, or will soon be starting a family.

A properly designed estate plan with a Last Will and Testament, a Power of Attorney, an Advance Directive (Living Will), and a Health Care Proxy is critical at any age.  Your assets will be protected and you can select a guardian to care for your children in the event of your untimely passingAs the global pandemic has unfortunately taught all of us, the future is not guaranteed.  Now is the best time to take action to protect both your financial assets and the people you love.
